FAQs

What happens in the first session?

We'll explore what's brought you here and what you're hoping to gain from counselling. If appropriate, we may also discuss what will help you to feel safe and secure in sessions such as possible adjustments.

How many sessions will I need?

Everyone is different and you can book as many as required. I offer both long-term and short-term therapy.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes, except in rare safety-related circumstances. If I believe that you or somebody you talk about is at immediate risk of harm, I may need to pass information on to another professional but this decision would always be shared with you (as far as possible).

What is the duration of each session?

We have 1 hour to use for each appointment.

Do I have to commit to a block of sessions?

No, you don't have to commit to any set number of sessions. As part of our counselling we will regularly review how the counselling is going and the number of sessions required.

Do I have to have sessions in the same timeslot each week?

No, I can be flexible to offer appointments in line with your schedule.

Is online counselling as effective as in-person?

Everyone is different but online therapy can be very effective for some individuals. Even though we're not in the same room together,  online therapy can still help you to explore how you’re feeling, understand what you are going through and support you to make changes in your life if you need to. For more information about online therapy, visit: Online and phone counselling.

Do you provide appointments outside 9am - 5pm?

Yes, my final appointment slot of the day begins at 6.30pm. However, I can occasionally offer appointments later if required and sometimes earlier than 9am.

Do you collect my data and how is my data handled?

Yes, I store client contact information and  keep brief notes of our sessions together to maintain a record of contact between us. Data is stored in line with GDPR regulations such as collecting the bare minimum data necessary, using pseudonyms and strong password protection. I am happy to answer any questions regarding data handling within our initial consultation.
